Susana Loureda

Daring, extravagant, circus, elegant, quirky, different, charming,
Polita Hats are a kind of emanation of the woman who draws and models them.

Polita hats are timeless pieces.
Its beauty is not temporary nor a prisoner of fashion.
Polita dress a means to provoke a reaction in the beholder us.
Well, is there any advantage to go unnoticed?

And in these times when the hat is not a necessary complement
the Polita hats are only suitable for women with craving for adventure.

The creations of Polita Hats have been viewed at the Antonio Alvarado fashion shows in Cibeles Fashion Week, and have been displayed at exhibition such as ¨Joies al Cap¨ at the Crafts Centre in Barcelona alongside acclaimed national and international names in millinery. As well as in the Museo del Traje, with the exhibition Sombrealismo, sombreros en clave surrealista, Madrid 2017.

It is due to her special way of understanding the creation behind millinery that she gives courses at different design and fashion institutes, a craftsmanship which she also continues in her specialized workshops in her studio.

The Adorned Shade, is a exhibition  in 2015 which brings together the hat creations of Susana Loureda with the photographs of Alberto García-Alix .
It is fruit of a collaboration which was initiated back in 1987 and which culminates on this special occasion .

This tandem of artists working together since the mid-eighties. The exhibition is a compilation of their collaboration over the years, a number of delicate images that highlight the original creations of the designer under the brand Polita Hats.
Loureda presents unique headdresses and hats where color and shape are the protagonists parts. The creator, who began with the design of these accessories almost thirty years ago, consideres them 'an object of power' which not only transforms the wearer, but also changes the relationship established between the others and the wearer. These pieces are made by hand according to traditional millinery techniques. The result is a stylish addition with a great power of seduction, combining fantasy with an extravagant air.

García-Alix shows a series of photographs taken of the new  Loureda collection, contextualized with a selection of vintage images covering the time span of their collaboration since 1987. The Photographer takes over the hats, giving them a new meaning in his images . The characters portrayed in the photographs, close to the two creators, are modeled by the author, generating a great tension in contrast to the harmony of the composition and the lighting.

This exhibition is demonstrating the productive exchange of ideas and the different paths used by the two authors in their own work over the years, with particular attention to their latest creations.
